Loving my New V-MODA Vibe Duo Headset
After 8 months of heavy use of my iPhone ear buds they fell apart in a period of one week. I first noticed there demise when the rubber around the buds peeled away and then the wiring of the right bud died. Although they are still under Apple's warranty, my wife convinced me to splurge on buying better quality buds.
At the local Apple store I came across the V-Moda Vide Dou line of headsets and was awed particularly by the chrome design. "Oh your looking for like, an endorsement? Everyone here has them" According to the Apple staffer I spoke with. Whether that was true or not when I searched on my iPhone for reader reviews at Amazon.com there were quite a few positive comments. So I splurged. It set me back $100 but well worth the investment based on my experience with them so far.
Design & Packaging
Along with the headset, it includes four replacement rubber bud caps, and a protective leather travel pouch, which I know I will eventually "misplace". It is enviable. The chrome design does not look cheap and the buds, jack, and mic are actually housed in me
tal alloy, for this reason I chose them over the nero (black). The actual wiring has a high tech look which I found appealing and overall the product seems pretty durable. The mic is placed at an appropriate level to pick up your voice and has a button to play or pause music and answer calls. A nice feature which the standard Apple ear buds do not have. The V-Moda also comes with a plastic clip, the only visible plastic part of the product, to anchor the mic to your shirt and can be easily removed. My one qualm about the design is that it does not include volume controls which would have made it an ultimate hands free headset.
Sound
They are not noise canceling but pretty dam close to it, which can be dangerous in the NYC. At first the sound was sort of like listening to music in a cave because they plug up your ear hole. Once I was over that fact, it was apparent the improved quality over my old ear buds. The quality the mic is also very good but does occasionally pick up some ambiance. Regardless calls are clear and the pseudo noise canceling aspect of it is a big improvement over the standard Apple headset.
Overall if you are looking to upgrade or replace the standard ear buds this is an excellent choice. They are comfortable, elgantly desinged, and will make your music and call sound great.
