On Friday, I read Jen Zingsheim's tweet reporting the conflict between Russia and Georgia over South Ossetia had developed into full-on war.

“This is big,” I thought. “While everyone on Twitter only writes about iPhones and the latest niche geek conference, Russia is further raising tensions in the world. Why does no one care?”

Recently got the iphone2.0 update on my iPod Touch. Now I can install any of the Appstore goodies. Like how I am typing this from the Wordpress app I just installed and it's free. With these apps and my Nokia N95, I'm feeling the power of mobile user experience 'firsthand'.

Well, it could be because you have a defective phone! Yes, it's possible. Keep in mind that as much as Apple tried to insure the manufacturing process is 6 sigma, there will be fails. I think Intel has the best QA record. Will check on that.

A friend of mine, and a few other blogs posts I've read, talks about fails on the iphone, especially, during phone calls that cannot be explained by software alone. In my friends case, he was having crashes at 2.0 AND at 2.0.1. Rebooted and reinstalled too many times.

I've talked about this before, and my guess was corruption at the upper mem registers. The only solution IMHO is to return the phone... But what if they do not have any more phone?? Then what?? This will be interesting.

WinPwn 2.0.0.4 has been released. This will jailbreak firmware 2.0.1. Firmware 2.0.1 has some good upgrades that speed up the iPhone and keep the iPhone from crashing so much. The 2.0.1 firmware upgrades the modem firmware and has not been unlocked yet.

So I needed to contact Apple's MobileMe support, and since they really don't give you that many options and the tech articles hardly ever answer user's real problems I thought I'd give the online chat a chance. Here's what I was welcomed with after entering my details and explanation of the problem...

I think that about says all there is to say, all that money and geniuses working at Apple and they can't even provide timely support.

What's the chances that somehow I'll get disconnected before getting thru to someone.

While the upgrade to 2.0.1 firmware on my iPod Touch went smoothly and appeared to be working fine, I later discovered a problem with the Mail.app. Since upgrading the firmware erases the installed OS, it also removes the mail messages. As I use Gmail with IMAP access these messages are stored in the Gmail account so should be synchronised when accessing the Mail application. What was happening was two attempts at downloading the mail messages then Mail.app quit.<!--more-->

Un brevetto depositato da Apple e intitolato "Remote access of media item" fa pensare che l'Azienda di Cupertino stia sviluppando un sistema di sincronizzazione in grado di connettere in remoto dispositivi come iPhone oppure iPod ai Computer e riprodurre i brani contenuti nelle playlist di iTunes di questi ultimi senza che per questo i dispositivi remoti abbiano i file musicali in memoria.

L'unico interrogativo che ci si pone è se questo sistema di sincronizzazione e streaming avrà la sufficiente stabilità per garantire un qualità audio ottimale.

That is the vibe I get from Apple with this whole iPhone 3G shortage fiasco, or circus...

Everyone that reads my blog posts here knows that I have been quite disappointed with the customer care at Apple and their attitude towards the shortage and their customers. Well, today I got the "icing on the cake" on "great" policies from Apple.
